>> Decoding Programming
Project Manager: Aleksandar Ristic-Smith

Aleksandar Ristic-Smith is a second year undergraduate at Mansfield College studying Engineering Science.

The initiative of this project is to teach computer science and programming to school students in the UK, in an accessible manner. Until very recently, computer science has been vastly under-represented in the national curriculum, despite its clear importance in several industries and careers. Furthermore, computer science is largely perceived as a field dominated by men and science, and so this initiative will also aim to engage students from all backgrounds and interests.
To tackle these problems, the project team is developing a web-based application, which will be supported by teachers in classrooms. This application will contain lessons, examples and an interactive interface to ensure that students can begin coding from the first day, and see the results of their creativity instantly. We are taking inspiration from existing services such as Code Academy and Khan Academy, but tailoring our content to better suit students between the ages of 11-16 and offering engaging lessons.
