THIS PROJECT IS RECRUITING NOW - SEE BELOW!

After the Nepal earthquake of 2015 the government as restricted the intervention of NGO’s to only assist in the reconstruction, but not to construct anything themselves. This is an immense opportunity for NGO’s to refine their ability to convey, and educate proper building practices. I propose to manage a team to decide, draw, and convey with user friendly, non-technical imagery to Nepali individuals affected by the 2015 earthquake. I propose to have a diverse project team of technical people, artist, communication/psychology background, as well as a person familiar with masonry engineering practices. It would be ideal to partner with the U.N. Shelter cluster or several Nepali NGO’s as to increase the access to life saving information. It would also be nice for EWB to have some experience in quick recovery visual communication after disasters that is usually done by people that do not have a multi-sectorial background. This exercise will enhance the understanding of how to convey engineering principles to the laymen, but also give EWB a part in creating an affordable way for preventing homes from harming the occupants in future calamities.

This project is being run by Alex Miller. Alex is currently studying for a Masters in Development and Emergency Practice from the Oxford Brookes School of Architecture and has extensive personal experience in disaster relief, having worked in Nepal after the recent earthquake and in Haiti, among other places. He is working with a friend and coursemate of his. They have already been in contact with CRS International as a potential partnering NGO.
